Mission
The Frontenac-Addington Trappers Council was established in 1980 as a non-profit organization representing trappers in the Frontenac-Addington area. Over the past 40 years the council has become involved in many conservation projects, public education projects and still remains strongly committed to these aims and values today.
1) Foster conservation in the Frontenac-Addington area,
2) Encourage the wise use of land and resources,
3) Maintain and enhance fur bearers, wildlife, and fish population and habitats for the betterment of trappers and residents alike,
4) Maintain close ties with the
Fur Harvester Auction Inc. house buyers, and suppliers within the industry for the benefit of our members,
5) Maintain close ties with the
OFMF and the
NDMNRF to help shape sensible and reasonable laws and regulations pertaining to our industry, and
6) To promote at all times a positive and humane image of the trapping tradition and the necessity of it in wildlife control and habitat conservation.
Facts
There are more fur bearing animals in Ontario now then when the European explorers first came to Canada. This is the result of the joint efforts of the
NDMNRF and the Ontario Trappers Association in developing a true conservation program over the past 50 years.
There are no endangered species among Ontario fur bearing animals.
The greatest danger today is of under harvesting and new laws based on emotion rather than biological evidence.
